I would love to say that this was my profession and I spent my days seriously contemplating the movement of coins from one side of the carpet to the other but alas I do not get to play with the 10″ Tonkas on a regular basis. This shot captures me playing with my son Solomon on a rainy day. A wonderful rainy day.
I don’t get to spend a lot of time with Sol and the time I do spend with him is often complicated by willful obstruction (not on Sol’s part, he is angel… well he is also a 4 year old boy but you get the picture). The point is I don’t get a lot of time to truly p-l-a-y. I think this is a deep need in men even in grampa age and forgetting the need is a sad thing.
Play. It comes out in me. At work things get too busy and stressfull for any human being to possibly cope with. How exactly do you handle the global distribution of three brands with a shoestring budget while being loaded down with mountains of paperwork (irrelevant to your job function but foisted on you) and with no business software, access to data adn modern communications? Yet when things are getting hairy and before I have a snarly pissed off breakdown (usually around 5pm, sorry my love), I usually look up and think to myself “gee this is fun. how exciting.”
I make up silly songs with dumb jokes in the lyrics. I sneek behind corners and scare the bee jesus put of my patient fiance. I then tickle her blue. (again with the patient fiance).
I do not see the 28 year old girls behaving thusly. I see them acting confident, coarse and brash in the hopes that this will allow them to seem like they are their own people, (good for them for trying it is for a good cause but you wont see me flexing and swearing in competition). Perhaps it is just the little boy in the man.
My dad has the whole thing also. He is a painter and this is part of it but he is all with the teasing and dancing and cheeky rhymes.
Well I am satisfied. Thanks for the time and if any of you see me getting toys for Sol and think “hey that is way too much” remember, he knows how to share.
